The Bunk Dam is located in the municipality of Castro Marim, in Ribeira do Beliche, a tributary of the Guadiana River.The construction of the dam was made between 1981 and 1986. It is a dam of land, with clay core and massive rock stabilizers, in a section of the Beliche river. Its watershed is 99 km² in area. It has a crown length of 12m wide, a height of 54.30m, a development of 527m. The total capacity of the reservoir, i.e. the total storage volume is 48 hm³ and the useful capacity of 44 hm³, with about 292 ha of flooded surface at the level of full storage (NPA of 52 m) and minimum operating level (NmE) of 15.00 meters.
