Our nearest town is Chalus, famous for its links with King Richard 1st, the Lion Heart and his death in 1199. The town is also famous with pilgrims on the Camino Frances (the French Way) section of the Camino Santiago de Compostela. Here there are supermarkets, pharmacy, schools, fuel, bank, hair dressers, DIY store, bakery, butcher, pub and others. It also has a market every Friday morning. There are many towns and villages in the area and several wonderful restaurants for every budget. Most towns have several fetes in the summer and autumn months. Limoges Airport is about 25 minutes from us and the train station which links us to the rest of the country and beyond is in the city. Limoges, famous for its fine porcelain production over the centuries is a 40 minute drive. Here in the southern Haute Vienne, we are close to the very picturesque and varied Dordogne region. Bordeaux and its famous wine regions are just over 2 hours. The historic and beautiful towns of Perigueux, Brantome and Angouleme are about an hour’s drive. Added to these the many chateaus nearby and you have endless places to visit and enjoy. It’s an easy, welcoming, happy, healthy and peaceful lifestyle.
