The Water Butterfly is located in the countryside, on the edge of the Weerribben-Wieden National Park, an area where tranquil open spaces still exist. This area is one of the most scenic areas in the Netherlands and offers activities like boating, fishing, swimming, biking, hiking, and, when the weather permits, skating. In this, the largest peat swamp of Northwest Europe, you’ll find plenty of space for plants, animals and humans. There is nothing finer than canoeing among the reeds, sailing past fields adorned with exuberant flowers or simply enjoying the mysteriousness of the swamp ... This and much more await you in the De Weerribben-Wieden National Park. The Water Butterfly is located near Giethoorn, the “Venice of the North”. The attractive places like Blokzijl, Ossenzijl, De Wetering, Kalenberg and St.Jansklooster all lie in the immediate vicinity. You can visit them by boat, car or bicycle. It is also possible to bring your own boat as there is a dock at the house. But boating is not the only thing that you can do there. Did you know that the Dutch Long Distance Swimming Championships are held here? And that for the simple reason that the water is very clean. Via a ladder at the jetty you can enter the water safely and enjoy swimming ... The Water Butterfly, a former farmhouse, is situated on private land on the waterways and offers lots of privacy. From the terrace you have a beautiful view of the water, where you can relax and watch the boats sail by. Around the terrace there is a wooded garden. Peace and space here is a reality. The Watervlinder (Water Butterfly) was completely renovated in December of 2011 and is centrally heated. The total area of this attractive and neat house is 128 m2, and everything is on one level. There are no thresholds, making it ideal for disabled guests. Via a hallway and long corridor you have access to the bedrooms, bathroom, separate toilet and living room. The beautiful large living room of 56 m2 has an open kitchen and patio doors opening onto a large furnished terrace where you can enjoy plenty of privacy. In the living room of course there is a TV, radio and CD-player. There is also a highchair available free of charge. The kitchen is equipped with a 5-burner stove, microwave, fridge / freezer and full kitchen inventory. There are four spacious double bedrooms. Three of the bedrooms contain two single beds each (may be pushed together in double bed arrangement) while one has a bunk bed. All beds have a mattress cover, duvet and pillow. You can make free use of a child bed as well. The large bathroom features a shower and there is a separate, spacious toilet. A washing machine is available. In short: a complete and spacious home for up to eight persons. Many great activities begin right at the home. You can go swimming in the water and there is even a canoe at your disposal. You can rent a motorboat and take interesting excursions to places like Giethoorn (the Venice of the North), De Wetering, Blokzijl, Ossenzijl, Steenwijk and Meppel. You can also bring your own boat. From the terrace you can relax and admire the passing boats. The Water Butterfly is just a stone's throw from picturesque villages like Giethoorn, Blokzijl, De Wetering, Steenwijk, Vollenhove and St. Jansklooster. You can visit these places by bike or car. You can enjoy fantastic bike rides in the De Weerribben-Wieden National Park, where small villages like Dwarsgracht and Jonen are still relatively unknown, and where you can go from one side to the other by bike ferry. There are many activities possible in the area, including boat cruises, museums, excursions among the nature of the Weerribben-Wieden National Park, and visits to quaint little villages like Giethoorn, the “Venice of the North” ( mini-golf, various galleries and monuments). Here you will also find many organized events. A small selection of the offering: sailing punt races, midweek parties, the Weerribben Market, the music of Dicky Woodstock and Blues Festival, gondola rides, flower shows and cycling trips. Dining options include a lot of choice, ranging from simple meals to culinary delights, and to top it all off, there’s even a restaurant with a Michelin star. In winter, when there is sufficient ice, you can skate in the Weerribben. Step out of your holiday house and go!
