Buchholz selber ist eine kleine Gemeinde, die ihren Reiz in der Ruhe und Naturbelassenheit hat. Ursprünglich wurde in Buchholz der Lebensunterhalt durch Landwirtschaft bestritten, was sich aber in den zurückliegenden Jahren erheblich geändert hat. Denn nicht nur Einheimischen gefallen die natürliche Umgebung und die Nähe zum Müritzsee und somit zur Mecklenburgischen Seenplatte. Und so wurden viele touristische Angebote erschlossen und entwickelt. Ferienwohnungen (FeWo) wurden für die Übernachtung an der Müritz gebaut und alte Häuser liebevoll restauriert.
