Debe su nombre a la feria o mercado de los jueves que allí se celebraba desde el siglo XIII, siendo la más antigua de la ciudad. En la actualidad las aceras están repletas de pequeños puestos o tenderetes que venden principalmente antigüedades y objetos de segunda mano, aunque en sus orígenes se ofrecían todo tipo de artículos. Encontrará edificios emblemáticos como el Mercado de Abastos, construido en el siglo XVIII, es uno de los edificios de servicios más antiguos de la ciudad; la Iglesia de Omnium Sanctorum, templo mudéjar del siglo XIII; la Capilla de Monte-Sión, la Iglesia de San Juan de la Palma y el Palacio de los Marqueses de la Algaba, construido en el siglo XVI y considerado uno de los mejores ejemplos de arte mudéjar civil de la ciudad.
