4 bedroom villa under construction, on a plot of 675m2, for sale in Cossourado, Barcelos
This villa is sold in its current state, with the possibility of making changes to the initial project.Cossourado is a Portuguese parish in the municipality of Barcelos, with an area of 6.44 km² and 758 inhabitants (2021 census).
Cossourado was established by D. Afonso Henriques, in 1135, and remained so for a long time, until it belonged to the land and judged of Aguiar and then passed the commendation of the Order of Christ. Appearing already documented in the eleventh century, it comes in the Census of Bishop D. Pedro, with the designation of Santa Maria da Cadavosa, which indicates that its first mother church was not the current church, but the Chapel of N. Sr.ª da Cadavosa and, in fact, it is not only known that the current church was only built in the eighteenth century, As information from 1758 reveals that the chapel was formerly a parish abbey. Other theses add that the same chapel corresponds to the extinct Parish Church, which is still sometimes called the Old Church.
Appearing in the inquiries of 1220, under the name De Sancto Jacobo de Coissoirados, Cossourado was also known as Courado and even as Encosoyrado (census 1527). According to Father António Gomes Pereira, its toponym derives from the Latin Cossus Auratus, a designation that would have been quite common in Roman times, but for archaeologist Brochado de Almeida, the existence of the Castro de S. Simão suggests that the etymological origin of Cossourado comes, rather, from coissoiros, a name associated with the forts.
