Il existe des documents de son existence dès le milieu de l’année 1595. Avec quatre étages et plus de 200 pièces, il a été construit par la famille Sebolinhos de Barahona, une famille influente de la région qui a transformé toute la zone qui l’entoure en l’un des plus grands champs de blé du Portugal, créant Morgado da Esperança à partir de 1750. Comme il s’agit d’une résidence de la noblesse, il a eu le privilège d’accueillir trois membres de la famille royale portugaise : la reine D. Maria II, le roi D. Pedro V et le roi D. Luís, lors de leurs voyages dans la ville de Beja, en plus d’avoir reçu d’autres royautés d’autres terres de ses dépendances. Elle possède une belle chapelle de style baroque avec des sculptures dorées datant de 1721.
