The first image that we find on entering the plot is a sequence of concrete volumes in the foreground, in a natural environment that not only surrounds them but seems to interweave with the construction. The image faithfully reflects the first decision of the project: to transform the land using architecture in combination with nature. The house itself seemed to reveal that desire to belong to this land with the need to connect to the place with a perfect adaptation to the topography with the different surfaces of the ground. To access the house, mid-height walls lead downwards until you discover the door of beautiful carved cubist shapes that opens to another world, to another reality on the opposite side. A beautiful patio welcomes you in the middle of the wide space and a dynamic flow begins that configures movement forward in the shape of an eight, around two perforated patios that act as light wells. There are several routes linking the three areas of the house (parents, children and kitchen area) but also in the south-north direction (from the meadow between houses to the geometric garden). From the very entrance of the house you can glimpse its complexity and spatial richness, with the patio that finds you and the three steps that lead you to the living room whose panoramic window takes you almost from the entrance to the outside, to the terrace with a fountain and fire, that advances as a solid basement of the house in the middle of the garden. Nature enters and leaves the house, it is like an echo. One is in and out in one step. On the other side of the entrance there is a mural with integrated furniture and the access to the kitchen, it is always ready to take out food in beautiful trays decorated with brocades to serve the guests who come continuously. The second patio is more private and slightly more spacious. It overlooks the open but higher dining room, also being the area for adults and children connected by a beautiful corridor with vaulted windows that reveal the garden and patio on one side and the other. The house fits into the land in an organic way, in a continuous and natural flow, blurring the line between inside and outside. The materials always linked to the earth in ceramic or stone flooring, or concrete walls with wooden plank formwork. Fifty years later, the Somosaguas house has not been forgotten. Today students and architects continue to visit it. They are already history. Les invitamos a recorrer sus espacios a través de este texto, el cual recopila parte de las impresiones vividas por la propietaria de la casa, quien tuvo la suerte de crecer y descubrir esta memoria arquitectónica durante los últimos 25 años, y los cuales recoge en su libro: Miradas Cruzadas. La primera imagen que encontramos una vez atravesado el perímetro de la parcela es una secuencia de volúmenes de hormigón junto a otros en primer término, en un entorno natural que no solo los rodea sino que parece entretejerse con la construcción. La imagen refleja fielmente la primera decisión del proyecto: transformar el territorio desde la arquitectura, con la naturaleza, para la construcción del lugar. Una cueva poseída por la naturaleza, casa contenedor de naturaleza. La propia casa parecía desvelar ese deseo de pertenencia a esta tierra con la necesidad de conectarse al lugar con una perfecta adaptación a la topografía con las distintas superficies del suelo. Para acceder a la casa hay que adivinar la entrada por los ademanes de los muros a media altura que conducen en bajada hasta descubrir la puerta. Puerta de bonitas formas cubistas talladas que se abre a otro mundo, a otra realidad en la cara opuesta. Un precioso patio te recibe en medio del espacio amplio y se inicia un fluir dinámico que configura un tránsito en forma de ocho, alrededor suyo y de un segundo patio. Dos patios horadados se comportan como pozos de luz en el interior de la vivienda (sin vocación de ser ocupados). El primero prácticamente se diluye, desaparece en el continuo espacial favoreciendo desde el vestíbulo la visión del exterior. El segundo introduce la necesidad de introspección. Los recorridos son múltiples para enlazar las tres áreas de la casa (zona de padres, hijos y cocina) pero también en el sentido sur-norte (desde la pradera entre viviendas hasta el jardín geométrico). Es fácil moverse en ese espacio abierto y tallado en niveles, moverse con los dedos en los ojos que palpan y sopesan paramentos, machones, intersticios, solados, tragaluces, carpinterías y cielos rasos. Son todos ellos elementos dinámicos que van hilvanando espacios cuyos límites quedan voluntariamente indeterminados. Desde la misma entrada de la casa se atisba su complejidad y riqueza espacial de una forma total, con el patio que te encuentra y los tres peldaños que te conducen al estar cuya ventana panorámica te saca casi desde la entrada hasta el exterior, a la terraza tallada, con fuente y fuego, que avanza como sólido basamento de la casa a la mitad del jardín. La naturaleza entra y sale de la casa, es como un eco y como ella. Uno está dentro y fuera en un paso. Del otro lado de la entrada hay un mural con muebles integrados y el acceso a la cocina, está siempre a punto para sacar alimentos en bonitas bandejas decoradas con brocados para servir a los invitados que vienen continuamente. El segundo patio es más privado y un poco más amplio. Da al comedor abierto pero más en alto, también al estar la zona de adultos y de niños conectada por un bellísimo pasillo con ventanas salteadas que dejan ver jardín y patio de un lado y de otro. Sus paredes son como membranas de un conducto cuyas vistas permanecen abiertas o cerradas según nuestra voluntad o lado. Me gusta imaginar que lo primero que buscó Carvajal tras reconocer la tierra, fue un lugar donde prender el fuego, y una vez encontrado, elevar un rezo con una plegaria pidiendo fuerza e inteligencia para llevar a cabo algo realmente importante para su familia. Modeló el fuego interior como una chimenea bisagra que articula los espacios en dos niveles y entre los dos patios, permitiendo disfrutar de el al ras o más en alto. Es como una escultura entre chimenea y peldaños presente en un ámbito amplio de la casa. El fuego exterior también fue conformado como escultura mural que expande lo de dentro afuera y configura la terraza como una gran sala con el cielo de bóveda. La casa se va acoplando en el territorio de manera orgánica, como ramificando y cualifica ámbitos diferenciados según las estancias. Los muros, como sucede con el interior, se van aligerando, convirtiéndose en tapias de patio, petos y aleros con profundas líneas de sombra que parecen disolver la materia. Todo sucede como en un fluir continuo y natural, sin saber diferenciar el dentro del fuera. Los materiales siempre vinculados a la tierra en solados de cerámica o piedra, o paramentos de hormigón con encofrado de tabla de madera. Este material, el hormigón, es un material muy duro que se moldea a voluntad de su origen, resistente al paso del tiempo, aunque su huella queda en él. La relación que he tenido con este elemento no fue fácil al principio, pues uno debe aprender a convivir con él, a valorar su presencia, así como a entender su esencia de perdurar en el tiempo que hace que parezca viniera de muy lejos y te repite “un para siempre” que es difícil de asumir. Asumir y entender el legado del arquitecto en esta obra que trasciende por su ser y por su bien vivir, el bien vivir de la casa. Cincuenta años más tarde, la casa de Somosaguas no se ha olvidado. Hoy estudiantes y arquitectos siguen visitándola. Ya son historia. Presente de lo pretérito que pertenece a la emoción de quien se asombra. Cuantos descubrirán que su ejemplaridad reside en el diálogo inquisitivo ante las preguntas: ¿qué es el hombre? ¿cuál es la relación con el mundo?
