Quinze ans après l'arrivée de ce groupe, la plage est devenue une destination de vacances pour une partie de l'élite de Lisbonne.Vaste (environ 4 km) et parfois agitée, la partie sud de la grande dune est légale pour la pratique du naturisme. C'est d'ailleurs ce fait qui a fait la renommée de Praia do Meco.Cette plage est le théâtre chaque année d'un tournoi international d'ultimate frisbee : Torneio Internacional Bar do Peixe.
